The EU recommended putting Ukraine on a path to EU membership on Friday, a largely symbolic boost for the country, and the same was said for Moldova. The same could not be said for Georgia, where the EU recommended delaying the EU candidate status with the country until compliance of certain terms could be met, which were described as gaining a “European perspective”. Separately, the IMF approved $280mln in a stand-by arrangement for Georgia, allowing immediate disbursement of $40mln.
