Belarus

Belarus announced that it will pay its Eurobond obligations in Belarusian ruble. According to the country’s finance minister, the decision comes as Belarus has had a hard time paying its debtors through international clearing and depository systems. The Belarusian authorities would use the central bank’s exchange rate on the day of the exchange. Alternatively, the country may offer a ’significant’ discount for buyback ahead of schedule as the Eurobonds are trading at 18% of their nominal value.
