Argentina

On Saturday, Argentina’s economy minister Martin Guzman resigned, marking the biggest departure of president Alberto Fernandez’s government after infighting within the ruling coalition escalated. Over the last months, Guzman lost support from the far-left wing of the coalition led by vice president Cristina Kirchner. The shakeup raises doubts on whether Argentina can comply with its $44bln EFF arrangement with the IMF, whose goals and objectives for the second half of this year are seen by economists view as too challenging to reach. In his exit note, Guzman called for a ‘political agreement’ within the ‘governing coalition’.
