Ghana

A group of independent power producers in Ghana, IPP, rejected the government’s proposal to include USD 1.4 bln in arrears as part of the nation’s external debt restructuring. They urged the authorities to honor payments due to six of its members starting Friday to prevent a possible shutdown of power plants. The nation is restructuring most of its public debt to qualify for a USD 3 bln financial aid package from the International Monetary Fund, with its public debt at about 575.7 bln cedis (USD 47 bln) by the end of November.
