German chancellor Olaf Scholz has invited Chinese premier Li Qiang to Berlin for talks on June 20 to ease tensions between Europe and the Chinese government. Scholz aims to seek China’s cooperation in addressing global peace and climate change issues and emphasize Germany’s red lines on the status quo in Taiwan. Relations between Europe and China have been deteriorating while China’s president Jinping has tried to rebuff US allegations of being a threat to the global order, an ambassador causing an uproar when questioning the independence of ex-Soviet states.
