Russia budget deficit has soared in the first four months of this year, surpassing the annual target due to a 26% surge in war-related spending and declining energy revenues due to sanctions. The federal deficit reached USD 45.4 bln in this period, with the finance ministry attributing the spending surge to early-year advance payments. The ministry did not indicate where the money went, but economists said they are linked to war costs.
