Thailand

Thailand economy grew 1.9% in Q1 2023, outpacing the anticipated 1.7% and bouncing back from a 1.1% decline in Q4 2022. With last year’s growth rate at 2.6%, the nation forecasts a 2.7% to 3.7% expansion this year. Meanwhile, pro-democracy parties, primarily the Move Forward party and Pheu Thai, clinched a significant victory in the parliamentary vote. They secured the lead in both seats and votes, projected to hold 287 of the 500 seats in the lower house. However, the prospect of forming a government remains uncertain due to the 250 senators appointed by the military and potential opposition to their stance on the monarchy, a position that has historically precipitated the dissolution of political parties.
