The PM of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, expressed disapproval of attempts to limit trade between Georgia and Russia. According to the Georgian National Statistics Office, the trade turnover between the two nations amounted to USD 2.5 bln in 2022. Despite efforts by the EU and the G7 to tighten sanctions on Russia, the country remains one of Georgia’s leading trade partners, surpassed only by China and Azerbaijan. The sanctions focus primarily on third-party countries that Russia might exploit to evade or undermine existing penalties.
