Tunisia

Tunisia is developing an alternative proposal to the IMF after president Kais Saied refused the terms of a USD 1.9 bln loan agreement brokered last year. Saied has objected to subsidy cuts and the sale of state-owned enterprises, citing concerns about the potential impact on vulnerable populations. It’s not clear when the new proposal will be submitted or the negotiations it will entail. Meanwhile, the EU and the US have urged Tunisia to finalize a revised plan, promising significant support once officials secure an IMF agreement.
