Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga has called for nationwide demonstrations on July 7 to protest president William Ruto’s “Finance Bill 2023”. The bill’s disapproval and the demonstrations may bolster the opposition Azimio coalition and potentially lead to unrest. Meanwhile, Officials set an inflation target of 5% for FY23 to maintain macroeconomic stability. Last week, the central bank raised its benchmark lending rate by 100 bps to 10.5% to control inflation. That, along with improved agricultural productivity and increased food imports, is expected to bring down inflation to the target level.
