Paraguayan president-elect Santiago Pena will be traveling to Taiwan and the UAE to strengthen bilateral relations. Pena plans to meet with Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi to advance investment and commercial ties. Amid rising tensions between China and the US, Paraguay continues to be Taiwan’s last ally in South America. China’s investments in Latin American lithium, agriculture, and infrastructure have caused a dwindling number of countries in the region to recognize Taiwan, with Honduras recently switching sides.
