Ethiopia

French ambassador to Ethiopia stated that external creditors are awaiting a debt sustainability assessment from the IMF before advancing with debt restructuring. France and China’s Eximbank are co-leading a creditors committee to provide Ethiopia with debt relief via the G20 Common Framework. Ethiopia owes a total debt of USD 26 bln, mainly to China, and urgently seeks at least USD 2 bln from the IMF to boost its reserves. Despite this, PM Abiy informed the parliament that the economy is poised to achieve a 7.5% growth rate in FY23, surpassing the IMF’s 6.1% forecast.
