Russia has terminated the Ukraine grain export deal, which had been operational for roughly a year. This move heightens the uncertainty surrounding global food supplies and further exacerbates tensions. Effective today, the pact is no longer active. Russia had recurrently threatened to abandon the deal, a unique symbol of cooperation amid its conflict with Ukraine. The cessation of this corridor will impact primary buyers, including China, Spain, and Egypt. In response, Ukraine intends to formally inquire if the UN and Turkey are prepared to persist in their support of the grain-export deal following Russia’s decision to suspend it.
