India’s fiscal deficit grew to 4.51 tln rupees from April to June 2023-24, compared to 3.52 tln in the same period of the previous fiscal year. This increased deficit accounted for 25.3% of the government’s estimate for the current fiscal year, contrasting with the 21.2% reported during the previous year. Total expenditure increased by 10.8% to 10.51 tln rupees, while receipts only rose by 0.5% to INR 5.99 trillion. The goal is to conclude the current fiscal year with a budget deficit of 5.9% of GDP.
