Paraguay is attempting to draw more Taiwanese investment to diversify its predominantly agricultural economy. Paraguay is the sole South American country maintaining formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan. In addition, Paraguay is finalizing a certification process to export beef to the US, potentially granting access to the lucrative markets. Officials also unveiled plans for Paraguay to issue nearly USD 1 bln in sovereign bonds in international markets.
