Guatemala plans to increase spending on infrastructure, healthcare, and education, partly due to higher deportations from the US. This spending will widen the budget deficit. With 675,000 Guatemalans living in the US, remittances reached USD 20 bln in 2023, accounting for a fifth of GDP.
