Serbian President Vucic has nominated Deputy PM and Defense Minister Vucevic as the country’s next PM, succeeding Brnabic, now Speaker of the National Assembly post-December elections. The nomination is yet to be supported by the National Assembly, where the Presidential SNS party has an absolute majority. Various news sources commented on the appointment, with Bloomberg commenting that the nomination signals that Serbia’s drive towards the EU will be balanced by continued cooperation with Russia/China. Meanwhile, Kommersant quoted the Serbian opposition stating that the personality of the PM does not really matter much as long as Mr. Vucic remains the president of the country.
