Kazakhstan’s President Tokayev announced that the country’s first nuclear power plant will be built by an international consortium rather than a single contractor. Potential bidders for the USD 10-12 bln project include Russia’s Rosatom, France’s Electricité de France, South Korea’s Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power, and China’s China National Nuclear Corp. While Kazakhstan recently held a referendum supporting the plant’s construction, it remains unclear if a consortium approach is feasible under current conditions.
