India’s opposition parties are banding together in an attempt to defeat PM Narendra Modi in the general elections slated for less than a year away. The Congress party hopes to continue the momentum from a recent victory in the southern state of Karnataka and utilize the high inflation and unemployment rates to pose a risk to Modi in upcoming state and national elections. Currently, non-BJP parties govern approximately half of India’s 30 states, particularly in the east and south, where the BJP’s presence is minimal.
