Sri Lanka

IMF chief Georgieva praised Sri Lanka’s economic recovery, noting the nation’s “remarkable turnaround” during talks with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. Despite Dissanayake’s leftist stance and his initial promise to renegotiate the IMF loan, he has continued austerity measures. The IMF commended the reforms and reported that Sri Lanka’s GDP had recovered 40% of its losses from 2018 to 2023.
