US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer told Vietnam’s top trade official that Vietnam needs to improve its trade balance with the US and open its markets further. Vietnam indicated that the government is considering removing “trade barriers” for US companies and cracking down on export fraud. The US ran a trade deficit of USD 123.5 bln with Vietnam in 2024. This widening gap is drawing attention as President Trump’s America First agenda, which involves tariffs, aims to rectify what is seen as an unfair trade imbalance.
