In Kazakhstan, Timur Kulibayev, son-in-law of the country’s first president, is in talks to repay around USD 1 bln to the state, as part of a government investigation into wealth accumulated under that presidential administration. Kulibayev already paid USD 230 mln last year, as part of a settlement. Further, the Kazakh transport ministry has issued a report saying there was an “external impact” behind the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines plane, in Western Kazakhstan earlier this year. Azerbaijani President Aliyev had already stated that the plane was accidentally shot down by Russian air defense.
