In Montenegro, Spajic, the leader of the Europe Now (PES) party, announced progress in forming a coalition government that excludes pro-Serbian and pro-Russian parties. That comes after PES led in the parliamentary elections in June. The political dynamics in Montenegro are complex, especially given its sensitive relations with neighboring Serbia. Following a referndum, Montenegro declared independence from Serbia in 2006, and the possibility of a government without pro-Serbian elements could signify a continued movement towards closer ties with the EU and NATO.
