Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan has increased its oil exports bypassing Russia in Q1-2023, as it seeks to reduce its dependency on its neighbor. Although exports through the Caspian Sea and the Caucasus are relatively small, they have risen sharply since February 2022. The data shows that oil supplies from the Caspian Sea port of Aktau to Azerbaijan’s Baku, the primary single route bypassing Russia, surged to 163,436 tons in January-March from 28,875 tons in the same period in 2022. Additionally, more oil was sent to China.
