Moldova’s government has agreed a solution to continue supply gas to the breakaway region of Transnistria, after Russia halted supplies to the region in January. The agreement will involve a Hungarian gas company delivering the gas to the border between Moldova and Transnistria, and will be paid for by a Dubai trading company. The source of funds is undisclosed, though a Transnistrian politician said the company has ties to Moscow. The authorities in Transnistria have also reportedly refused EUR 60 mln of EU aid for its energy sector, in favor of this arrangement involving financing from Russia.
