Brazil started importing natural gas from Argentina through Bolivia, marking an unprecedented move in Latin America. The gas transport will pause during South America’s winter and restart in the summer when Argentina’s demand decreases. Bolivia’s pipeline system will become unusable, and natural gas production will decline. This marks the first instance in Latin America where gas has been transported through a second country to reach a third, akin to the arrangements between Russia, Ukraine, and Europe.
