The UN’s Security Council approved an international force for Haiti, targeting powerful gangs and facilitating postponed elections. Kenya will lead this Multinational Security Support mission for a year. Though backed by the Security Council, this operation won’t fall under UN Peacekeeping and will rely on voluntary funding. The US has already pledged USD 100 mln and urged other countries to provide support.
