South Africa’s current-account deficit for the third quarter was smaller than expected, as the trade surplus narrowed only slightly and the shortfall in services, income, and current transfers was the smallest it’s been in a year. The deficit shrank to an annualized 1% of GDP, or 70.8 bln rand (USD 3.9 bln), from 1% of GDP, or 75.3 bln rand, in the previous quarter.
