The SADC, a bloc of 16 southern African nations, has approved a USD 17 bln natural gas project to address power shortages. The plan encompasses developing pipelines and terminals for local and imported gas, with significant gas finds in Mozambique, Tanzania, and South Africa. The 15-year strategy focuses on gas sources in northern Mozambique and southern Namibia and import terminals in southern Mozambique and South Africa. Funding challenges and project delays, like those seen with TotalEnergies SE and Shell Plc, could loom as current roadblocks.
