Amid rising inflation worries and a lack of intervention by the treasury, Angola’s currency fell beyond the 800-per-USD mark for the first time. The kwanza has depreciated roughly 37% of its value since May 11 following the government’s decision to stop defending the currency and to cut gasoline subsidies. President Joao Lourenco has urged the central bank to take measures to strengthen the kwanza and diversify the economy.
