Botswana’s Debswana’s rough-diamond sales fell to BWP 24.6 bln in 2024, down from BWP 45.5 bln the previous year, marking the lowest since 2020. The Finance Ministry forecasts the 2024-25 budget deficit to increase to BWP 18.6 bln, from an initial estimate of BWP 8.7 bln. Rough-diamond sales contribute over a third of Botswana’s budget and foreign-currency earnings.
