Advancing anti-government fighters in eastern DR Congo led to the temporary closure of the Bisie tin mine, the third most productive tin mine in the world. Alphamin Resources, the operator, decided to temporarily cease mining operations due to the proximity of insurgent militant groups. The Bisie mine accounts for about 6% of global tin output.
