The Ghanaian cedi is projected to fall 30% against the US dollar in 2023, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) forecast. The cedi weakened by over 40% last year and has already declined by 20% this year. However, a potential USD 3 bln IMF bailout and fiscal and monetary tightening may slow the currency’s decline in the latter half of 2023, with gradual depreciation expected in subsequent years.
