Jordan’s foreign minister, Ayman Safadi, urged international investment into Syria’s devastated infrastructure to accelerate the return of refugees. Jordan, hosting approximately 1.3 mln Syrian refugees and sharing a border with the country, has played a pivotal role in Syria’s return to the Arab League. Jordan also organized regional discussions in May between Syrian, Saudi, Iraqi, and Egyptian officials to reach a political resolution to the ongoing crisis. The US and the UK insist that Syria is not yet safe for return, a stance echoed by UN agencies and human rights organizations.
