The IMF is assessing the impact of a Kenyan court decision that overturned new taxes implemented in 2023 before approving further aid. Following anti-government protests that resulted in 61 deaths, Kenya had to reduce its budget by 3%, increase borrowing, and adjust its fiscal deficit projection from 3.3% to 4.2% of GDP. The IMF is expected to disburse about USD 600 mln after this review.
