Kenya is collaborating with the World Bank and the EU to expand its Hustler Fund, which currently offers affordable credit to over 20 mln impoverished citizens. The World Bank is considering support worth up to 20 bln shillings (USD 139 mln), which, combined with domestic investments, might facilitate lending of up to 200 bln shillings over five years. The average Hustler loan is below USD 5, accessed mainly through basic mobile phones. Approximately half of the 21.3 mln registered users are women, 70% are under 40, and loans have an 8% annual interest rate.
