Lebanon

Israel escalated its heaviest airstrikes on Hezbollah positions in Lebanon since 2006 following the interception of the first missile fired by Hezbollah at Tel Aviv. Air raid sirens were activated in Tel Aviv as the missile flew over central Israel. Israeli airstrikes have killed about 570 people, including 50 children, and wounded more than 1,800. Israel has since broadened its attacks, hitting areas north of Beirut and launching an offensive southeast of the Lebanese capital. The coming 24 hours are seen as critical, with no indication that either side is willing to de-escalate.
