Five countries have experienced food inflation beyond 60% this year, with Lebanon and Syria facing triple-digit food inflation at 138% and 105%, respectively. In Iran, Turkey, and Egypt, annual food inflation exceeds 61%, making it hard for families to afford essentials like bread, rice, and vegetables. The region’s heavy reliance on imports has exposed it to global food price fluctuations, amplified by the war in Ukraine and supply chain disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
