Mozambique has initiated a process to review and modernize its legal framework for mining, oil, and gas in order to increase local benefits. Mozambique has significant natural gas reserves and coal deposits but remains one of the world’s poorest countries, with nearly three in four people living on less than USD 2.15 a day.
