The EU will provide $1.3bln to support Nigeria’s agriculture, climate and digital projects. The county is encouraging investments in agriculture and technology-based infrastructure to reduce its dependence on oil. While crude oil contributes about 7% of the country’s GDP, it accounts for nearly all foreign-exchange earnings and more than half of the government’s revenue. Meanwhile, Nigeria sold more than $1bln of natural gas to Portugal this year. The CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company said that Nigeria supplies 70% of Portugal’s energy imports.
