Meanwhile, the EU has pledged significant financial assistance to Tunisia to boost its economy and reduce irregular Mediterranean migrant flows. Tunisia serves as a portal for migrants and asylum-seekers attempting dangerous journeys to Europe. The EU has proposed a EUR 900 mln package with immediate EUR 150 mln support. This aid will also help Tunisia manage its borders and combat human trafficking.
