Tunisian president Kais Saied unexpectedly replaced his PM of nearly two years, Najla Bouden, with a relatively unknown figure, Ahmed Hachani. The sudden change adds further uncertainty to the government’s deal to secure a USD 1.9 bln aid package from the IMF. Saied, who assumed broader powers in 2021, has sparked concerns about Tunisia’s default risk by opposing spending cuts and other policies necessary to secure the IMF funds.
