Uganda

Uganda is seeking alternative funding sources, particularly local pension funds, after the World Bank froze financial support worth USD 1.787 bln due to the country’s controversial new anti-LGBTQ law. The government had presented a 52.74 tln shilling (USD 14 bln) budget for FY23-24, aiming to finance 55% of it through domestic revenue. Talks are ongoing to persuade the World Bank to rescind its decision.
