Uganda will approach President Trump’s administration to restore preferential trade access under the African Growth & Opportunity Act (AGOA), which was withdrawn in 2023 after the country passed anti-LGBTQ laws. Uganda, Africa’s largest coffee exporter, lost AGOA benefits, and the World Bank also froze new lending. The AGOA program expires in September, and Uganda aims to engage with the new administration to regain access.
