Zambia’s energy regulator is reviewing a request from the state-owned power utility to increase electricity tariffs by up to 156% to compensate for losses caused by drought, which severely depleted water levels at hydropower dams. The world’s largest artificial freshwater reservoir was down to just 10.3% of usable water, with levels critically low before the expected rains in November.
