Zimbabwe trade deficit decreased to USD 161.5 mln in February, with exports up 1.9% to USD 435.7 mln and imports down 0.4% to USD 596.8 mln. Notably, gold, nickel mattes and concentrates were the top exports, accounting for 23%, 20%, and 15%, respectively. Meanwhile, China Energy Engineering Group proposed a nearly USD 1 billion project to build a floating solar farm on Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe to help alleviate the country’s acute electricity shortages amid Blackouts lasting about twelve hours a day caused by low water levels that have affected generation from a hydropower plant on Lake Kariba.
